A visit to Afghanistan Women Educational Center by Etisalat Afghanistan team

Kabul, June 8, 2011: Etisalat Afghanistan team has recently visited Afghanistan Women Educational Center (AWEC), a non-profit organization, working to help street working children and widows in Kabul.

AWEC is providing informal education to more than 500 children aged from 8 to 18 years in three shifts every day in two centers. These centers provide opportunities for street working children and their families by giving them access to education, vocational skills training, basic life training and psycho social support to develop as productive and respected citizens. The Students of this center previously had no chance of getting formal education because they had to work to find a living for their families. For elder girls, the center is providing vocational trainings in crafts like tailoring and embroidery.

AWEC social workers are frequently visiting the children families and educating the parents as well as employers to prevent all forms of child rights violations and establish protection mechanism at appropriate levels.

EA team distributed gifts, school bags, shirts, caps, notebooks and other stationary items to these children and spent time with them. It is heartening to see these children full of hope and enthusiasm to learn and become a useful member of Afghan society.

Etisalat Afghanistan stands committed in serving the community by playing an active role as a socially responsible entity and part of Afghan society in areas important to their needs.
