Etisalat Afghanistan is awarding 1.5 million Afghani for the best Holy Quran Reciter competition (Report + Pictures)
The Etisalat Telecommunication Company gives a significant priority to Islamic culture and has always considered promoting and sponsoring programs that will help strengthen Islamic culture amongst the people of Afghanistan, especially amongst the youth. To make these efforts a reality, Etisalat has produced and sponsored the first session of a new ‘Quran recitation and memorizing competition.’ This promises to be the biggest such show ever in Afghan History. A large reward of 1.5 million Afghanis is in store for the winners of this competition, which is intended to bring Afghan youth closer to their rich heritage.
The competition will take place in the month of Ramadan and will be held every subsequent year during the Holy month of Ramadan and aims to promote respect and understanding of the Holy Quran throughout Afghan society.
The competition is open to both men and women between the ages of 10 and 35. Participants must have fully memorized the Holy Quran. Following the initial Qualifying round, the Judging Panel selected 75 participants to proceed to the next round of the competition.
The 2nd round of the competition convened on the 9th of September and is set to continue for 3 days until the 11th of September, by which time only 25 participants will remain to qualify to the next round.
The Director of Research from the Ministry of Hajj was present in the opening ceremony of the program. He talked of the importance of such programs as a means to inform young Afghans about their faith.
The program’s first broadcast will be on the 10th of September 2008 and will continue for 10 days. It is scheduled to be on air on Tamadun TV from 5:30 pm till 6:00 pm.
The second broadcast is set to follow on the 20th and 21st of September, where the judging panel will introduce 5 finalists.
The 25th of September will be the grand finale where the winners will be announced.
The 27th of September will be the closing ceremony, where the winners will be awarded their gifts and the program will conclude.
